Zooey Deschanel remembers “sweet” and “fatherly” actor Rob Reiner.
the 500 days of summer The star paid a heartfelt tribute to her New girl The costar, who was recently found dead along with his wife, Michelle Reiner, at his home in Los Angeles.
“He was just one of those people you think, ‘I can’t believe I’m going to work with this person,'” Zoe told People of Rob, with whom she shared the screen for six years on the series as his on-screen daughter. “He was so sweet. He was a father to all of us.”
“Everyone in the New Girl community loved him,” the actress went on to say.
“The actors from the show — everyone on the show is devastated,” she added.
For those unaware, Rob and Michelle were murdered on Sunday, December 14, and later that day, their son Nick was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths.
Zoe also wrote a touching note in memory of Rob on her Instagram account on Monday, December 14.
“My heart is broken. Rob Reiner was the warmest, funniest, most generous person ever,” she wrote.
“He actually went to college with my mom,” she continued, recalling the unforgettable quality time she spent with Rob on and off set.
She noted that he “gave great advice.” “He had this thing where he really wanted everyone to succeed. He was very encouraging, always interested in what I was doing, and I remember being happy to hear about my kids.”
