Sargement: To end this matter, the judge also issued a strong condemnation of Trump and I would like to quote: “This is a state of constitutional law, not the state of martial law.” AG, this is what is at the test here, I think. Do you expect this to go to the Supreme Court and how do you expect the Supreme Court to deal with basic cases?
Rivild: As you know, the optimistic inside me says, Hey, nothing can be seen here, The Supreme Court will sit there and say, Hey, the judge of the Court of First Instance understood the matter correctly. I really think that the judge of the Court of First Instance understood the matter correctly. She is very studied, was in a critical position, and she understands what is at stake.
I think the Supreme Court – even if you reach them – will understand what is at the test here in America. Once again, sometimes even the Supreme Court ruling may be in our favor is what this state needs to see to know really that even this conservative court – even the judge appointed by Trump – you see the matter differently.
We should not need this in society now, but because we are very accustomed, because we have politicians from both sides who continue to pay polarization, it is difficult for people to really know those who trust it. So the presence of some of these honest people – that there be a more conservative judge, appointed by Trump, rules in favor and speaks, not only philosophical but in practice, about what our democracy means – is very important now at these times. I just hope more people listen.
