Glass jars are a popular way to store anything from food to trinkets, and a woman has just discovered a trick for replacing metal lids with a different option that reduces waste.

In the water (@vees202) on TikTok shared a tip she learned from another helpful person that a metal jar lid can be replaced with a plastic lid from a peanut butter jar.

She explained that she loves Mason jars but hates the oxidation that comes with their metal lids, so, despite some initial skepticism, she was impressed when she found that the peanut butter jar lid fits both tall and shorter Mason jars in her stash.
The Optional Protocol stressed that the lid change only applies to simple storage and should not be used for canning or preserving.
How it helps
This hack is very useful, because although metal jar lids can be revived, it’s easy to have a backup in case they get too far apart or lost. This also means that there is no need to throw away the uncovered jar because it is no longer useful, reducing waste and saving money on purchasing new items.
Using a plastic peanut butter jar lid is also a great way to stretch your food dollar by creating new life for your empty jar, plus it reduces plastic that ends up in landfills.
