A nursing home has provided health support to islanders suffering from chronic illnesses.
Les Bourgs Hospice in Guernsey has started a free, 12-week rehabilitative program open to anyone aged 18 or over who has a serious or life-limiting illness.
Eloise Tanguy, service leader, said: “There was a recognized need for some kind of support service for people with a life-limiting or long-term illness to give them support…advice and create a safe environment for them to engage in.”
Wellbeing sessions are held on Thursdays in the Wellness Center at Andrew Mitchell House.
Ms Tanguy said the scheme allows people to “have that space and they can connect and unload”.
“It also gives caregivers and family members a break, so they don’t have to worry about being cared for,” she said.
“We see the impact on the people we have, but we would just like to get more people involved because we know how much of a positive impact it can have on people.”
Service user Lyn Lawson Dumile, who has been attending the sessions for about four weeks, said the nurses at the hospice are “absolutely wonderful people”.
“I enjoy mingling with people, we are all the same, we all have problems and we like to talk to each other and we like to talk to the nurses.”
