
For several hours, we did not know why several top prosecutors, including acting Chief Joe Thompson, resigned from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota in the wake of the shooting of Renee Judd. As David Kurtz explains here, this appears to have been a reaction to a freeze on local authorities’ involvement in the investigation into Goode’s death, as well as an order to open a criminal investigation into the activities of Goode’s widow, Rebecca Goode. So, we know what this is about, or we’re very close to knowing it. But often, in these cases, we never discover the full picture. Or we don’t know specifically why the person resigned. I’ve been thinking about this. The entire terrain is similar to the gravity surrounding other major scandals. At first, at least, you can’t really see what the crux of the scandal is, but you can see the gravitational pull surrounding it. There is something similar to these shootings
