What is it required to convert Texas, a Republican stronghold, into a blue country? According to data from SurveymonkeyYou have to remove all weapons owners from Lone Star State, and he would go to Hillary Clinton in 2016. You can do the same in the liberal California. Removing all unarmed owners and the state voted for Donald Trump.
This is the way the issue of controlling weapons in American policy is divided.
SurveyMonkey found that there is no other demographic – not race, religion or sex – completely divided voters. In the 2016 elections, 47 percent Trump supporters said that control of weapons was an important issue enough to influence their vote. This is compared to only 27 percent of the voters who supported Hillary Clinton.
But what does this gap mean? How does it affect the weapons control policy, and how can this issue change in light of the recent mass shooting such as Las Vegas, Orlando and Niotown? To discuss data, PBS NewShour hosted Twitter 1 pm Chat on Thursday with Data Journalist Dante Chinni (Dchin), Professor and Head of Political Science at Kansas University Don Haider Marcil (Dhmarkel) And Washington Post Philippe Pots (pbump).
