President Donald Trump responded Sunday night to global protesters who filled streets around the world the day before No Kings Day, saying he is not a king and is working “hard to make our country great.”
Trump made the comments to reporters before exiting Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, when asked about the “No Kings” demonstrations over the weekend.
When Trump was asked about the protests, he described them as a “joke.”
“I looked at the people. They don’t represent this country, and I looked at all the new signs that were paid for. I think Soros and other far-left lunatics paid for them,” the president said. “It seems like it’s worth examining. The demonstrations were very small and very ineffective and people were suppressed. When you look at these people, they do not represent the people of our country,” he added.
Millions are expected to flood the streets in “No Kings” protests targeting Trump in all 50 states
He also confirmed that he is not a king.
“I am not a king,” he said. “I’m doing my best to make our country great. That’s all. I’m not a king at all.”
His comments came a day after large crowds gathered in cities including New York, Washington, D.C. and London to participate in the second “No Kings” protest since June, which targeted the Trump administration.

Despite concerns that the marches could turn violent, no incidents or arrests were reported during the afternoon marches amid the ongoing government shutdown.
Republicans said the protests were intended to distract from the ongoing government funding battle.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Los Angeles, told FOX Business he hopes Democratic leaders who attended will be more open to the GOP plan after the demonstrations, though he did not sound optimistic.
