The White House said that Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Friday that allows the US Department of Defense to restore itself as the “Ministry of War”.
An administrative official said that the matter will appoint the “Ministry of War” as a “secondary title”, as an administration official said, as a way to overcome the need for Congress approved to officially rename a federal agency.
However, the matter will ask the rest of the executive branch to use the name “Ministry of War” in internal and external communications, and the Defense Minister Beit Higseth and other officials are allowed to use the “Minister of War” as official titles.
The matter apparently in appreciation of the restriction of the executive procedure alone – also directs Higseth to recommend the possible legislative movements that the administration can take to permanently restore the Ministry of Defense.
Trump and Hegseth were publicly pressing the brand rename for weeks, claiming that the change would provide the American army more aggressive to the world by returning to the name that was used when the United States was victorious in the first and second world wars.
“Everyone loves to have an incredible history of victory when it was the Ministry of War,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office last week. “Then we changed it to the Ministry of Defense.”
When asked about the need for Congress to change the name of the Federal Agency, Trump suggested that the administration saw it as formal. “We’ll do that. I’m sure that Congress will go in full swing, if we need it. I don’t think we need,” he said.
White House officials have suggested separately on Thursday that they were keen to do something symbolic to celebrate the 200th day of Trump.
The United States government had the Ministry of War until shortly after World War II, when the Truman administration divided and integrated the American army and merged with the navy. In 1949, Congress Amended the National Security LawThe new agency was called the Ministry of Defense.
The White House argues that changing the name indicates the strength and preparation for the war of launch, even when Trump earns the case that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
