In response to the governor’s announcement – and in stark contrast – Sofia Muerto, one of the organizers of the No Kings campaign, told… Local news outlet: “We hope any additional law enforcement agencies deployed by the Governor enjoy our event, live music from local Austin artists, hardworking Americans coming together in solidarity and celebration and discovering the more than 50 organizations working together to make Texas a better place to live.”
“We are disappointed that the Governor chose to spend Texas tax dollars on deploying additional resources to monitor a non-violent First Amendment event,” Mirto continued, “while there are so many Texans who need housing, transportation, health care, and quality education, there are still victims of the devastating July 4 flood here in Central Texas who need the Governor to sign an executive order to provide assistance.”
