Tom Hanks was appointed to receive an honorary prize, but because of some issues the ceremony was canceled.
The American Military Academy in West Point, the award responsible for the ceremony, was canceled in which Hanks was appointed to receive the Silvanos Thiers Award 2025.
The decision made the decision by the West Point Association of the graduates, according to an email sent to the teaching staff by the association’s president and CEO, retired Colonel Mark Pegence.
People explained that the cancellation allows the academy to focus on its basic mission of preparing students to lead, fight and win as officers in the United States Army. Email did not mention whether Hanks would continue to win the prize at a later event or in a different format.
The Silvanos Thier Award annually is awarded to a distinguished citizen to the United States, which embodies its service and achievements, the personal dedication of the higher ideal expressed in the West Point logo: “duty, honor, country.”
Hanks were announced as the award in June, where the academy indicated his filming of service members in films such as saving the soldier Ryan, Fourrest Gamp and Sulayhyud, as well as his support for the army.
When Hanks was announced as the award for the award, he said: “The recognition by an institution whose graduates have formed the history of our country through non -selfish service is modest and meaningful.”
The cancellation of the ceremony is amid a transitional period in West Point, which has faced major changes since the presidency of Donald Trump.
