Singer-songwriter Tish Hyman confronted far-left California State Senator Scott Weiner after a man who identified as a woman harassed her in the Gold’s Gym locker room.
Los Angeles resident Hyman, who is also gay, was banned from her gym after she called out a man entering the women’s locker room.
“Stay out of the women’s locker room. We don’t want that!” Hyman told the man in footage that went viral.
Hyman also shared a video of the incident on her Instagram account, writing in the caption that she and other women had made several complaints to gym staff about the man entering their locker room.
“I and several women have filed written reports over and over again about this man because he walked into our women’s locker room, harassed us, and the gym staff did absolutely nothing!!” I wrote. “He disrespected me several times, and I was only ignored when I reported it calmly. But today I made a scene!!”
Reports It appeared later That the man, Alexis Black, had been accused of brutally beating his ex-wife before taking her name in transition.
Hyman confronted Scott Weiner, who is currently running for former Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) vacant congressional seat, in a town hall-style meeting about the incident.
“As a queer woman who was attacked in the women’s locker room at Gold’s Gym this week by a self-identified trans woman with a documented history of domestic violence, I am deeply concerned about women’s safety in women-only spaces,” Hyman told Wiener during the meeting.
She added: “What would you say to women who are seeking assurances that their safety will be protected from men who, under California law, can identify themselves as women in women-only spaces. Sir, please tell me.”
Weiner returned to standard talking points about transgender ideology.
“We want everyone to be safe. We also know that we have trans people, both men and women – men and women,” he replied.
“So trans women are women,” he added.
Heyman refused to back down.
“I’m telling you right now, millions of women across America are being harassed and sexually assaulted in locker rooms,” she said. “I’m a black gay woman, and I’m not transphobic, and I’m not homophobic… but I see that a lot of the bills I passed pose a danger to women and young children.”
While Weiner apologized for assaulting Hyman, he refused to accept that allowing men into women’s locker rooms harms women.
“Obviously this is very important, and I also know that trans women are also brutalized in this country, so we have to protect the safety of women,” he said.
Heyman headed out.
“I will not accept that… You guys are not protecting women,” she said.
