This Thai company creates food packaging from bamboo to reduce garbage

To address the garbage problem in Thailand, one of the companies turns into the life of the plant in the country.

Universal Biopack makes the package that you sell to restaurants and manufacturers. But instead of plastic, it uses a mixture of bamboo and cassava, which is widely found throughout the country.

After rapidly growing in recent decades, Thailand has become one of Asia’s largest economies. But like many other countries in the region, it was slowly trying to fight millions of tons of garbage produced every year.

“Waste management is a big problem everywhere,” said Vara-Anong Vichakyothin.

The company uses a technology that has been placed at the University of Bangkok to make its zero packages. She hopes to finally replace many stereovom boxes and plastic bags that end in the huge garbage dumps in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.

Its environmentally friendly formation took five years to develop and adaptable to the extent that its use may end to collect things such as furniture and even phones. The bamboo that it uses comes from the remains of residue from the process of making the pieces of cutting.

In the cities of Bangkok and Shaiang Mai, where drinking drinks and pasta packs drink on the sidewalks, the company provides organic restaurants and farmers and other companies in the food and drink industry.

But finding new customers can be difficult.

Thailand food sellers want to keep the costs in a competitive field with thin margins. Ask to spend more on packaging for environmental reasons is a difficult sale.

“The local economy still does not support [this technology]”The founder of Universal Biopack, SuteP Vichakyothin said.”

But this did not prevent other companies from entering the sustainable packaging market in Thailand. Like Universal Biopack, they are betting on increasing environmental awareness, which ultimately increases demand.

To become more competitive, Suthep invests. It aims to increase production by building an automatic collection line in its factory near Bangkok and doubled its employees from 50 to 100.

The goal is to increase the monthly capacity from 300,000 units to a million.

A lot of demand comes from abroad. One of its customers uses the natural package of coconut water.

Universal Biopack says she is also interested in its products from other countries, especially in Scandinavia.
