A new study from Utah University revealed the ethnic and ethnic inequality to monitor air pollution in the United States
What is happening?
According to investigationThe Environmental Protection Agency is more commonly unparalleled in white neighborhoods than color societies.
The researchers included data from the screens that followed the physical material, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, lead and carbon monoxide and was active between March 2019 and March 2024. They also used census block groups from all fifty states and Colombia Province.
The results showed the monitoring of the differences for all six pollutants, especially sulfur dioxide and lead, then ozone and carbon monoxide. All ethnic and ethnic groups generally had less screens for nitrogen dioxide, ozone, bullets and particles of the non -Latin white group.
Moreover, the areas with the residents of Hawaii and the Pacific Ocean island in general showed the largest variation, followed by the American Indian population, Alaska Americans and members of or more races.
Simon Bruroer, co -author, told Desret News. “The fact that it is a fixed pattern in all pollutants indicates that the decision-making process should be considered carefully-these screens are not distributed equal.”
Why are the inequality in air control important?
Price Bird, Director of the Air Quality Department at Utah, told Utah, Desret News His ministry is required by the Environmental Protection Agency to distribute screens based on sites that are expected to have the highest concentrations of air pollution.
He said: “They do not fall into a specific race, but they are targeting those areas that, due to industry or proximity to roads, are expected to have the highest levels of air pollution.”
However, the gaps in air quality cover can display more marginalized communities – which are already vulnerable to environmental injustice – to medical complications associated with these pollutants.
The contaminated air has been linked to harmful health effects, such as respiratory diseases, low cognitive function, and children’s deaths, and it also contributes to the high temperature of the Earth.

What is done to treat inequality in air quality?
Recent studies have shed light on the environmental injustice suffered by people of color.
For example, Stanford University has found that the physical subject had killed more black Americans than any other group in the country. Meanwhile, NASA stated that the black and Latin population who live in the United States have been unpaved in an unpubitive manner at the Nitrogen dioxide university produced by warehouses.
This coverage can help stimulate legislative procedures to hold the responsible parties accountable. Greenlatinos Colorado leads a lawsuit against the state’s air quality committee for its failure to protect the weak population from the main air pollutants, while a group of Hawaiian youth filed a lawsuit against the state’s transportation system to produce “unacceptable levels” of planet gases.
