In an interview with People magazineThe actor recalled the emotional moment he spent bidding farewell to the series.

“This will live forever in my memory,” Heaton told the outlet, adding: “Just like gratitude for the people I was working with. Love, not gratitude. It’s really rare.”

Heaton continued, “You’re always looking for truth in a scene, and you’re always looking to get those connections. And on the last day of shooting, the things we were shooting, it was just real honesty.”

“I’m sorry to say goodbye. It was a really special experience,” he added.

On the other hand, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer also spoke about the end of Charlie Heaton’s character Jonathan Byers.

During their discussion on Netflix Tudum, Ross said, “We established that he’s been wanting to go to NYU for a very long time. This goes back to Season 1. So it made us happy to see him finally achieve his dream.”

Matt added, “The teens contacted us the day before we were shooting this scene. I think Charlie, in particular, wanted more details about what he was doing at NYU, so we all worked together to come up with this movie idea.”
