He said in a video on Monday that the Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is planning to hold meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Voludmir Zelinski this week.

He said he intends to meet Putin in Beijing on Tuesday evening during a trip to China, before meeting Zelinski in East Slovakia on Friday.

Fico travels to China to attend memorial events that define the anniversary of World War II, including a military parade on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Fico said that he would receive Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding that his European Union partners had been informed of his journey.

Fico wants to serve as a peacemaker between Ukraine and Russia, but he has failed so far, as politicians in the European Union accuse him of accusing him of being very friendly towards Russia.

Slovakia and Ukraine are still working in a conflict over Kiev blockage to cross from Russian gases and oil to Slovakia, which depend more on Russian energy more than any other country from the European Union.

Ukraine says it wants to reduce the financing of the Moscow war by preventing the crossing of Russian energy.

In his video message, which was published on Facebook, Fico expressed his regret that no other European Union leader was attending Chinese celebrations, describing him as a lost opportunity.

“The heads of state representing billions of people will be present there,” he said.

He added: “The new global system is established, new rules for a multi -polar world, which is a new balance in power and is very important for global stability.”
