Alaska’s choice of talks between presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin is seen as symbolic by some Russian commentators, who put it as a reference to historical relations and an opportunity for closer relations in the future.
It seems that Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski has not been invited to the summit on the war in his homeland, as well as the representatives of Europe, which led to strengthening Kiev’s concerns that his future may be determined without his inputs.
But the media and the political elite in Moscow praised the selection of the place-a region that the United States bought from the Russian Empire at the time 158 years ago-to frame it as a reminder that the United States and Russia are geographically close to each other and indicate that it can enhance relations between the two countries.
“Russia and the United States are close neighbors, they limit each other,” Putin Assistant in Foreign Affairs, Yuri Ushakov, said in a voice message that the Kremlin participated in a telegram last week.
The former Russian ambassador to the United States added that “it seems completely logical that our delegation will simply fly across the BERING Strait, and this is an important and expected summit for the leaders of the two countries specifically in Alaska.”
Vladimir Dashbarov, a member of the Russian Senate, described the “very wisdom” website, in an interview on Tuesday with Russia 24 news channel. He added that he was “very far from Ukraine”, about 5,000 miles, and “very far away, unfortunately, Europe, which is now largely hostile to us.”
The Russian commentators also praised the selection of Alaska.
Among them is Alexander Boubrov, who wrote in an editorial of the Russian -controlled Russian broadcaster RT on Monday that the summit was “more than just a meeting between two leaders” and “returning to the logic of direct dialogue without intermediaries.”
Buburov said that the summit in Alaska – where Russian Orthodox Churches are still scattered in the scene and the names of places like Nicolasvsk and Fezninsksk speak to its common history – can help build relations through the Bering Strait, which separates the two countries.
“The story of Alaska started Russian, America – now has the opportunity to become a common chapter, if both sides choose to see it as an opportunity instead of threatening,” he added, in a reference to Russia’s sale to Alaska to the United States in 1867 compared to 7.2 million dollars to avoid the region’s loss to Britain and raise the promoter.
The White House did not immediately respond to the NBC News request to comment on the Russian praise of Alaska.
While the state calls for historical cooperation between the two countries, Ukraine and Europe urged both the great powers to include Kyiv in any discussions to end the war.
Zelinski said on Saturday that any decisions taken without Ukraine were “decisions against peace,” adding, “They will not achieve anything.”

On Monday, he was asked whether the Ukrainian President was invited to the Alaska summit, Trump said that Zelinski was “not part of it”, and while he participated in several meetings during the war, only a few came from them.
“I would like to say that he could go, but he went to a lot of meetings. As you know, there was for three and a half years – nothing happened,” Trump added.
Meanwhile, European leaders are scheduled to measure a video conference on Wednesday to coordinate negotiations to end the war before a separate invitation with Trump and Vice President JD Vance, a spokesman for the German government, on Tuesday.
He welcomed a joint statement by the leaders of the European Union on Sunday, which was marginalized by Trump-Putin Tete-A-Ttete, “in order to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” but stressed that “a road to peace in Ukraine cannot be determined without Ukraine.”
The promises of conversations between Trump and Putin have not done much to calm violence on the ground since their announcement.
The largest Kremlin Army is slowly deeper in Ukraine at a large cost in the forces, while bombing Ukrainian cities.
The country officials said that it was overnight until Tuesday, the strikes of Russian drones were killed by two civilians and injured 13 others in multi -Ukrainian regions.
