The Israeli army launches a new wave of air strikes in Gaza and attacks Hamas after the attack on Israeli forces [VIDEOS] – Yeshiva World

The Israeli military launched a new wave of air strikes against Hamas targets in southern Gaza on Sunday night, hours after Palestinian militants attacked Israeli forces in Rafah in a “flagrant violation” of the ceasefire.

According to a military source, one of the targets that was struck was a tunnel system in the Khan Yunis area that Hamas had previously used to hold Israeli hostages. Footage published by Palestinian media showed explosions and smoke rising from the city as the strikes continued into the night.

This escalation comes in the wake of a morning attack during which Hamas activists opened fire on Israeli army forces in the Rafah Strip, south of the Gaza Strip. Defense officials vowed revenge after the incident, which came amid growing fears that renewed violence could lead to the collapse of the fragile truce that has existed since earlier this year.

Separately, the Israeli army said that its forces killed a number of armed terrorists who approached Israeli soldiers in northern Gaza. The army said the militants crossed the yellow line — the border to which Israeli forces withdrew under the terms of the ceasefire — and “posed an imminent threat to the forces.” The drone strike was carried out “in accordance with the threat removal agreement,” according to an IDF statement, which also included video footage of the strike.

Meanwhile, Washington is working to prevent the outbreak of fighting from collapsing the ceasefire, Axios reported. US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner spoke with Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, urging Israel to “respond proportionately but with restraint,” according to the outlet.
