Marilyn Fitoussi talks about her ‘Emily in Paris’ designs online: ‘I think fashion is political’

But her dresses were often under the microscope of some viewers. Now, the designers behind the clothes have spoken out.

“I think fashion is political; it carries a message and ideas,” says Marilyn Fitoussi. the peopleShe added: “Clothes tell you who you are and what you dream of. They introduce you to the world. I want to have fun with clothes.”

Through her ideas for the show, the designer explains that she sought to convey her vision. “Emily’s Paris fashion was my way of expressing my own vision and was meant to fuel your imagination.”

“My intention was not to make fashion or create a trend,” she continues, “and I didn’t want to do something cute or politically correct or idealistic. I wanted to create something interesting to look at.”

“You should dress to please yourself, express yourself, your individuality and not follow a trend. I’m just passionate and stay true to my vision. The way I mix patterns and fabrics can be confusing, but what I try to do is spark new ideas on how to put pieces together in a different way,” the actress adds.

Marilyn noted that she’s not bothered by online criticism, saying, “I just focus on what I think is right and different and interesting for the character regardless of what everyone else thinks.”
