Like the standard Stream Deck, the Stream Deck Plus comes with eight programmable switches you can use to automate tasks, like muting yourself during a video call or turning off smart lights. However, the Plus adds more customizability with four rotary dials that let you make fine adjustments, like changing the volume for a specific app.
Dials are especially useful for controlling music. With a single dial, you can skip forward or backward through a Spotify playlist, then tap to pause or play. In a standard broadcast group, you’ll need multiple buttons to do the same thing. Elgato also includes “Dial Stacks,” which allows each dial to handle multiple functions that you can cycle through. The thin touchscreen above the dials displays what’s currently assigned to each control and lets you scroll between different pages within the profile. And while the touchscreen itself can’t trigger plug-ins like regular buttons, Elgato has since released software updates that let you assign up to three standard buttons or plug-in actions to each dial, making the Stream Deck Plus much more useful than it was at launch.
