- Spotify is expanding managed accounts for its Premium Family plan after a successful trial run
- Parent account managers will be able to enable controls for young listeners, including explicit content filters and song-specific restrictions
- It also adds an extra layer of protection to your individual Spotify Wrapped results
Spotify is making changes to its Premium Family plan, expanding Managed Accounts (the music streaming service’s Premium accounts for younger listeners) to seven new locations, including the US, UK and Australia.
Managed accounts were launched in three regions last year, and later expanded to seven more regions. After this successful trial run, Spotify is now moving it to seven more new regions: US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and Netherlands.
Although Managed Accounts have only been part of Spotify’s subscription ecosystem for a year, they have become a highly requested feature, hence the company’s decision to roll it out more widely.
One of Spotify’s goals is to give listeners 13 and under a space to explore their own music tastes, and listen to their favorite artists with parental controls in place. They can also take advantage of other popular features like playlist creation, Today’s List, and a revamped Discover Weekly, just like any standard Spotify subscriber. However, the interactivity features will come with some limitations. For example, Spotify messages are age-restricted.
Expanding managed accounts adds a layer of reassurance for parents and guardians managing a Premium Family plan. They can enable the explicit content filter, restrict playback of a specific artist and song, and hide videos and short Canvas videos that appear with songs.
This all sounds great, doesn’t it? But if you ask me, that’s not the best part.

Also Spotify It was stated in her advertisement“Each managed account comes with its own experience,” which means the days of fearing your kids will steal your Spotify Wrapped scores are over. This also means that music recommendations for younger listeners won’t mix with the account manager’s recommendations, decoupling both tastes resulting in more accurate Spotify Wrapped readings.
The company signed off on its announcement by emphasizing its focus on enhancing and maintaining individuality within its Premium Family plans, saying:
“At Spotify, we want to give parents and kids the power to explore music together, from introducing kids to the same songs they loved at their age, to helping guide their individual discovery. Every child is different, and every family’s journey is unique, so we developed our tools to help caregivers share music in a way that works for them.”
