
Sophie Ellis-Bextor has spoken candidly about her parenting philosophy, offering a rare glimpse into life as a mother of five.
In a new chat with TelegraphThe 46-year-old singer explained why she chooses not to impose strict rules at home, and instead leans towards communication and trust.
“I’m a communicator,” Sophie said.
“I often ask them: What would you do if you were a parent in this situation?” We talk a lot about things, and we don’t have fixed rules about anything [but they] Self-regulation.”
For those who don’t know much, Sophie shares children Sonny, 21, Kate, 14, Ray, 11, Jessie, seven, and Mickey, four, with husband Richard Jones.
She went on to explain that although she avoids setting strict rules, boundaries still play an important role in her family.
“I have limits,” she explained. “I want us all to have a moral compass. Kindness is a big thing. And so is freedom.”
“The world is about what to charge for and what to cut back on – there is a lot going on for boys in schools and exams.”
She added that the house is meant to be a refuge. “I want the house to be a place where they feel happy, safe and supported by their siblings,” she said. “So I’m quite firm about all of that because I really value it.”
