The Saskatchewan government introduced legislation that would apply the six percent sales tax of Vaping products.

Finance Minister Jim Ryter says the tax is aimed at inhibiting the use of Vapes, especially among young people who are at risk of negative health effects in the long term.

He says that the exposure of nicotine harm the growth of the brain in youth and can lead to problems in learning, memory and mood.

The boycott expects the tax to generate $ 3 million annual revenue.

A separate tax of 20 percent already applies to Vaping products in Saaskuan, including electronic cigarettes and cartridges. A tax on tobacco products is also imposed at separate rates in addition to PST.

In February 2024, the legal minimum purchase of tobacco products in Saskatchean increased from 18 to 19 years old. Bringing alcohol, marijuana and all tobacco and steam products in alignment at the same age to buy.

Legislation for change was presented in the fall of 2023.
