Prince Harry issued a joint statement announcing his decision to step as a sponsor of the Charitable Society, Sentebale, which he founded about 20 years ago with Prince Seeiso.
The charity aims to support people in Lesoto and Botswana who live in poverty and those with HIV and AIDS.
In the statement, Harry and seeiso described the collapse in the relationship between the charitable association’s trustees and the chairman of the board of directors as “unimaginable” and created “an unpredictable position.”
The statement wrote: “For nearly 20 years, we founded Sntebale in honor of our mothers. Sentebale means” forgetting no “in sesotho, the local language of Lyzoto, and this is what we have always promised for the youth that we served through this charitable institution.”
The statement continued: “Today it does not differ. With heavy hearts, we resigned from our roles as the organization of the organization until further notice, in support and solidarity with the Board of Trustees who had to do the same thing.”
The row focuses on the Board of Trustees, Sophie Chandoca, and a decision to largely focus donations in Africa.
According to TimesChandoca suggests the trustees after they wondered whether she was in the best way to photograph the council.
The princes’ statement was stood by the departing trustees, saying: “These trustees have acted in the interest of the charitable establishment in asking the president to step down, while taking into account the well -being of employees. In turn, she filed a lawsuit against the charity to stay in this voluntary position, which confirms more broken relationship.”
The statement concluded that “we thank all the trustees for their service over the years, and we are really sad, they were forced to follow up with this act. What happened cannot be perceived. We are in a shock that we have to do this, but we have a continuous responsibility for the beneficiaries of Sentebale, so we will share all our fears with the Charitable Committee about how this happens.”
The Charitable Committee confirmed that the investigation is underway for concerns about the governance of the organization.
Chandauka refused to step down, and many members of the Board of Directors, including Timothy Boucher, Mark Dyer, Odri Cagidentsi, Willello Lerotholi, and Damyan West, have resigned as trustees.
A spokesman for the Sentebale said that the charitable organization did not receive a notice of Prince Harry or Prince seeo, adding that the “calibration” of the council was “part of the ambitious transformation agenda of Sentebale”.
Duke of Sussex traveled last time to Africa in 2024 to support the Charitable Society and attended an event for charities in New York in December.
