Cleveland High School’s Shaw Evans was thrown into the fire as a redshirt freshman guard last season.
“It was tough,” he said. “I was trying not to mess up.”
This season, as a 6-foot-4 sophomore, you can see his growing confidence and calm. He had a 39-point game and isn’t afraid to shoot a three-pointer.
He said: “I learned to play with confidence and accept what the defense offers me.
Evans’ development gives Cleveland another offensive weapon to go with 6-8 center Sergej Demme and guards TJ Wansa and Charlie Adams.
Evans scored 17 points in Wednesday’s win over Granada Hills. His first name comes from its Japanese roots.
The Dodgers have Shohei Ohtani, but Cleveland is happy to have Sho of its own.
