
The NYPD announced Saturday that it is deploying more police officers to local campuses in response to the deadly mass shooting at Brown University.

“We are tracking an active shooter incident at Brown University and coordinating with our partners there. At this time, there is no known connection to New York City, but out of an abundance of caution, we are deploying additional assets to local universities.” The NYPD said in X.
Asked whether the response was to deploy police officers on campus themselves or instead in the streets and surrounding areas, a police spokesman said: “We do not clarify exactly the areas in which we deploy them.”
The NYPD is coordinating with officials in Rhode Island, according to the British Daily Mail Mayor Adams.
The second day of final exams for the fall semester kicked off at the university as the school issued an active shooter alert and urged students and staff to shelter in place.
The shooting occurred near the Barros and Holley Building, a seven-story complex that houses the university’s College of Engineering and Physics Department. According to the university’s website, the building includes more than 100 laboratories and dozens of classrooms and offices.
A manhunt is currently underway for the shooter, who remains at large.
