Nicole Eggert is opening up about her breast cancer treatment, admitting she felt comfortable being alone amid “this crazy journey.”
During a recent panel discussion at the Breast Cancer Symposium with SurvivorNet in San Antonio, Baywatch The alum shared her journey with cancer and connecting with people going through a similar stage.
“We hear that one in eight women gets breast cancer,” she told People magazine. “But personally in my life, I don’t know anyone.” “So meeting new friends and surrounding yourself with people who are living their lives and going through this crazy journey, it’s really hard to put into words, to be honest. But it’s really magical.”
The 53-year-old actress also revealed that she had an “aha moment” during the conversation at the event, a realization that, unlike other breast cancer patients, she feels at peace with the fact that she is going through this difficult time alone.
“Everyone kept talking about their spouse and who took care of them and how they wouldn’t have been able to live without that person,” Nicole explained. “My experience was completely different. Not only was I single, but I really enjoyed spending time with myself.”
The actress, who was diagnosed with stage two cancer in 2024, recalled: “When I was diagnosed, I felt alone. It was a moment that there was no one really dealing with it but me. I had to deal with this, I had to go through this, I had to walk through this, and only I can do that.”
She added, “It was that moment where I felt like there was nothing anyone could do for you. It’s between me and my body now. And for me and my journey and during treatment, I was so appreciative of the time I had alone with my body. Really listening to it and learning and appreciating it and trying to build it back up.”
