California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s clowns gasp at full speed during a “live fire” training exercise at Camp Pendleton, California. They made a big fuss about it, falsely claiming that it was some kind of act of intimidation – because it happened on the same day (Saturday the 18th of October) that disaffected hippies, unemployed actors, and paid agitators were marching for “No Kings.” Be the judge.
Using our military to intimidate people you disagree with politically does not make you look strong.
Makes you look weak.
It is reckless, disrespectful, and yet another action that falls under the office of the presidency.

Then on Saturday morning, the governor ordered the closure of the road after experts advised him.
Earlier this week, the White House denied the need to close the highway near Camp Pendleton due to live munitions being fired on the highway. But today, despite WH’s claims and lack of transparency, California traffic and public safety experts recommend… https://t.co/bEEnZLzWrs

But today, despite WH’s claims and lack of transparency, California traffic and public safety experts recommended the highway be temporarily closed to best protect the public.
And now the White House is being verified by Grok, the latest AI tool approved by the Pentagon.
Today’s narrative is one of many false narratives spread daily by Newsom’s team. Unfortunately, he is taken very seriously by his followers. This is another Chicken Little moment – a false alarm to scare “those who are afraid.”
If you’re not familiar with Marine Corps Camp Pendleton, it is a sprawling military base with property on both sides of Interstate 5. 95% of the camp is located on the east side of the highway. On the western side is the Pacific Ocean and the beach. On the eastern side is the main camp and the surrounding hills. My father and brother “attended” boot camp at Pendleton during the war. I have traveled down and up I-5 many times. I’ve watched amphibious landings and heard the crackle of artillery while driving. Marine Corps training for war. For those of us who aren’t afraid of our shadows, it’s a fun, 15-minute distraction if the Marines are training.
The New York Times published an article dated October 18, 2025, which Newsom’s communications team had read the day before. In part, The article states:
To prepare for Saturday’s event, artillery rounds from M777 howitzers were fired from Red Beach east over Interstate 5 Friday evening as a test run, said Capt. Gregory Dreibelbeis, spokesman for 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, which is headquartered at Camp Pendleton. He added in a statement that vehicular traffic along the highway was not closed during the artillery fire.
“M777 artillery pieces have historically been fired during routine training from ground artillery firing points west of I-5 to impact areas east of the interstate within existing safety protocols and without the need for road closures,” Capt. Dreibelbeis said. He described the test firing as a “well-established and safe practice” as a rehearsal for Saturday’s event.
The shells fired by the M777 howitzer, which are about six inches in diameter and two feet long, typically weigh about 90 pounds and can be fired at targets more than 15 miles away.
Marine Corps officials did not reveal whether the shells fired Friday were high explosive shells, or inert training projectiles often used for military training.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued what it calls notices to pilots during the vice president’s visit, closing some airspace near Camp Pendleton while he was expected to be there. Amtrak, which operates the Pacific Surfliner train near the stretch of highway in question, did so Canceled rail service In the area from noon to 3 p.m. PT on Saturday.
When Marines fire on the road, they assign safety officers to alert the fire crew when it is safe to fire. No one on the highway is in danger.
You’ll notice that Newsom didn’t link the article in Post X. Better set everyone’s hair on fire. But in reality, these live fire exercises have been going on for years without a complaint from the state governor. Saturday’s training is more complex, but not much different from what the Marines have done for years. However, Newsom’s communications clowns would rather point out that this exercise is some sort of intimidation lesson, designed to intimidate the No Kings crowd?
Once again, Newsom and his team are lying with insinuations for political capital.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Veterans Employment and Training Service Division, Jessie Jane Duff, a Marine, responded to Newsom’s nonsense about the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday in X.
Closing the highway to celebrate the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday at Camp Pendleton isn’t the win you think it is @gavinnewsom
We Marines and all veterans will remember you trying to stop our celebration of defending this great nation.
You are not ours. https://t.co/z1cceyXLrO

Let me finish with two points. Apparently the New Times article needed three writers. three. Of these three, none of them knew much about Camp Pendleton or the Marines. How do I know? Because the early version (sent to Newsom on Friday) mentioned Basilone Road (named after the famous World War II). Medal of Honor Hero John Basilone), it is called the “primary route”. It’s hard to miss.

Sure enough, it was a “small mistake.” A correction was made at the end of the New York Times story, but it bothered me. John Basilone received the Medal of Honor on Guadalcanal. He was then appointed to the War Bonds tour. He hated the duty and begged to return to his fellow Devil Dogs. The Marine Corps respected his request. He died on Iwo Jima.
Every time I pass the Basilone Road sign, I think of Sergeant Basilone. Apparently three writers and not one New York Times editor could be bothered to learn that this road was named after a Marine hero — nor could anyone in Newsom’s communications office be bothered by the facts.
Editor’s note: Schumer close here. Instead of putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats imposed a government shutdown of health care for illegal immigrants. They own this.
