More details about the situation at Indiana University

Yesterday I told you about a situation at Indiana University linked to the professor of computer science and encryption called Xiaofeng Wang. According to very slow general reports, FBI and DHS police searched two houses owned by Wang and library systems analyst called Nianley Ma, who assumed his wife. Colleagues at other universities noticed that the vital Wang pages were removed from the university’s website and no one seems to know his place. It was not clear whether he was arrested or may have been detained in a migration.

I can now report some new and unpaid details, which go largely to the events schedule.

I was told that on March 14, university colleagues were informed that Wang was placed on an administrative leave and that at that stage, at least any activity of any public law enforcement activity, his web pages were removed from the university’s website and its email IU was closed. There was no internal explanation for the reason for any of this. But these measures will be consistent with a university investigation into a kind of alleged misconduct.

I am still unclear whether the university investigation leads to federal law enforcement procedures or whether the early stages of the Federal Law enforcement investigation have led the university to a Wang status on leave and take these other measures. However, what is clear, according to my information, is that the law enforcement inspections two days ago did not lead to a Wang status on leave. This happened some time ago, as the changes on the university site did and close Wang mail. It only does not seem that anyone in the broader society notes until the raid/research.

The additional details are the same, it is not clear that Wang has been launched. This was not what colleagues were told in mid -March and there was no update on that front, unlike colleagues. If you know more about the situation, please contact me on one of my safe channel below.

Ed.note: This post has been updated to add the date of March 14.
