Minnesota officials were looking for answers in the case of a student student at Minnesota University, which was held by the American immigration authorities for unknown reasons.

The university leadership said that the ICE immigration and customs application on Thursday at a residence outside the campus. The officials said that the school had not been given a pre -posting about detention and did not share information with the federal authorities. The student’s name and nationality were not released.

Since the issue remained largely mysterious, government and local leaders called on the federal authorities to explain their actions.

The student detained at the College of Business Administration was registered on the university’s twin city campus. University officials said that the school was providing the student with legal assistance and other support services.

What prompted the detention is still unknown. ICE officials did not respond to the Associated Press email requesting the comment.

The governor of Minnesota state, Tim Walz, said to X that he is in contact with the US Department of Internal Security.

“Minnesota University is an international destination for education and research,” Walz wrote. “We have any number of students studying here with visas, and we need answers.”

The Maynabolis mayor, Jacob Fry, also called the “deep disturbing” case.

“Educational environments should be places for all students to focus on learning and growing without fear,” wrote on X.

Officials promised to issue more information about the case once updates are made.

American immigration authorities are targeting people with relations with American colleges and universities, as President Donald Trump is seeking to hold immigrants. Most detainees showed support for the Palestinian causes.

The Trump administration cited a law that rarely allows the Foreign Minister to cancel visas that can be considered a threat to foreign policy interests. It is known that more than half of the people of people have been detained or deported in recent weeks.

In Minneapolis, the University’s Higher Federation organized a protest on Saturday outside the Citizenship and Immigration Services Office in the United States, according to Minnesota Star Tribune. “International students are huge assets for the University of Minnesota,” Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota said in a Facebook post. “They move thousands of miles away from their families and support systems to learn better and brilliant. I cannot imagine their horror after you know that the ice has detained one of their colleagues in the classroom.”
