Meghan Markle lands in hot water over Prince Harry’s old IG

Meghan Markle was embarrassed by her tribute to Prince Harry on Instagram on his 41st birthday, even though it was posted weeks ago.

On September 15, the Duchess of Sussex posted a photo of Harry taken in 2015 during an RAF flyover at Goodwood Airport.

“Oh hello birthday boy,” Meghan captioned the post with a fire emoji.

Now, nearly three months after Meghan dropped the tribute, the post has drawn attention because the photo also contains links to Harry’s ex-girlfriend, Cressida Bonas.

“Using an old photo of your wife when there are so many recent memories is weird,” one social media user wrote. Yes! magazine.

Another said: “Emojis are falling off the charts for a photo taken before they knew each other,” while a third added: “It’s weird that you chose a photo linked to Harry’s ex.”

The photo was taken in 2015, shortly after Harry returned from conservation work in Africa, during a Goodwood event marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

That same evening, he spent some time in London with his then-girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, who later married estate agent Harry Wentworth Stanley in 2020.

Speaking about the matter, a source claimed that the post was meant to be “funny” but received backlash.

They said: “Meghan clearly wants to express her love for Harry, but using such an old photo with fire emojis makes it look calculated and somewhat exaggerated.”

“And using a photo associated with Cressida reeks of some kind of dig at his ex-wife. It’s strange she didn’t use a more recent photo – she must have thousands.”
