
He was sentenced to life imprisonment for nearly three decades. Eric and Lille Mindez could have a shot in freedom as the prosecutors of Los Angeles walk through new evidence.
At a press conference on Thursday, George Jaskoun, Los Angeles lawyer, participated that the lawyers in Mindez had provided new evidence in a petition and asked the court to evacuate their convictions. GASCón announced a hearing on November 29 for possible resentment.
“We did not decide on the result. We are reviewing the information,” said Gascón, For every CNNAdding that his office was not sure of the “validity” of the new evidence. “We will evaluate all of this.”
His parents were killed, Jose and Kitie Mindez, in 1989. They were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1996 at the second killing trial. This trial prevented famous for the use of most evidence that separates the potential abuse of the brothers, a move that has long inspired criticism from criminal justice advocates, including Kim Kardashian. The new evidence includes a letter from Eric Mendez whose lawyer believes to support brother’s claims of long -term sexual assault by his father.
Eric and Laila Mindez have always been explicit about the abuse they suffered at the hands of their father, Jose, a worker saying that he should have played in their rule.
Cliff Gardner, a lawyer for Mindez brothers, celebrated the news in an email to Associated Press.
Gardner wrote: “Given today’s understanding is completely different of how sexual and physical abuse on children – both boys and girls – and the wonderful new evidence, we believe that resentment is the appropriate result,” Gardner wrote. “The brothers have served more than 30 years in prison. This is enough.”
The duo returned to the limelight due to the Netflix series created by Ryan Murphy, which was created on its case: “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Manendez Story”. Eric criticized this series in a post to Facebook last month.
