Light snow this evening

FIRST ALERT – WINTER WEATHER WARNING: A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the following North Carolina and Virginia counties from 7 a.m. today through noon Tuesday: Pearson-Granville-Vance-Warren-Halifax-Alamance-Orange-Durham-Franklin-Nash-Edgecombe-Wake-Johnston-Wilson-Mecklenburg, Virginia. Snow accumulations totaling up to an inch will be possible across the Triangle, with lesser amounts further south. Up to 3 inches will be possible near the NC/VA state line. Additionally, residual moisture could lead to black ice forming late Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Along and north of Interstate 64, rain is turning to snow this afternoon. South of 64, the rain will fall mostly as rain, briefly mixing with snow or turning to sleet before ending. There is expected to be a bit of a backlog there. The snow/light flurries will ease this evening.

Temperatures will drop during the afternoon as the Arctic air stabilizes.

Evening temperatures will drop into the 20s which will allow wet roads and lingering moisture to freeze quickly, leading to potentially slippery conditions for Tuesday morning commuting. With temperatures rising again tomorrow and reaching above freezing around midday tomorrow, travel conditions will improve. Highs will be in the low 40s on Tuesday, which will help
With melting. It will be possible to refreeze again Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

By Wednesday afternoon, it will become very breezy with wind gusts of 25-30 mph as a deep low pressure system passes to the north. Intermittent rain is likely Thursday with the next front.

Another polar front will track through this weekend, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s and lows in the 20s. Wind chills may be in the lower teens Sunday morning.
