Kindle Colorsoft Review: Is it really worth $ 250?

table of contents

Kindle Colorsoft had a strange offer. The Color E-Rader reader appeared for the first time in October 2024, but he stopped shipping quickly after the customer reports to color. Since then, Colorsoft has quietly with two new repetitions joining the squad. Now the Colorsoft group includes Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB), Kindle Colorsoft Signature (32 GB), and Kindle Colorsoft Kids.

Kindles Amazon joined the electronic reader party very late. Before the launch of COLORSOFT, Kobo had already had two millions electronic readers, Clara color and scale color.

With the colors of Colorsoft for the first time, Amazon also faced a major price problem, as the first device launched – the Colorsoft Signature version – costs $ 279.99. As of July 2025, Amazon released more Kindle Colorsoft at reasonable prices, which we are here to review today.

At a price of $ 249.99, it is still an investment for the electronic reader-is it worth it? Below our ideas about Kindle Colorsoft.

Kindle Colorsoft price and specifications

As mentioned above, the Kindle Colorsoft with 16 GB costs $ 249.99. To put this price in its right perspective, this is more than $ 90 of the similar Kindle Paperwhite but $ 30 is cheaper than Kindle Colorsoft Signature.

Compared to the other electronic reader, it is still expensive. Kobo Clara costs the same Paperwhite at $ 159.99, while Kobo Libra costs $ 229.99. Therefore, looking at the price alone, it is one of the most expensive electronic readers.

Let’s get into the Kindle Colorsoft specifications:

  • 7 inches display

  • Up to 94 brightness with adjustable warmth

  • 300 points per inch for black and white and 150 points per inch for color

  • USB-C charging port with up to 8 weeks of battery life

  • 16 GB of storage

  • IPX8 can be completely filled with water -resistant in water for up to one hour

  • It comes in black, berries, and praises

The color does not disappoint

Kindle Colorsoft has been placed on the left side of a strong graphic novel.

Kindle Colorsoft’s great display is the color screen, so this is the priority here. The color looks really nice on Kindle Colorsoft.

I have borrowed a copy of Heart heart 3 With Libby and sent him to Kindle Colorsoft, but I wanted to see how actually compared to the real thing. After grabbing a material copy of the novel from the library, I appointed it side by side to see how the pictures compare.

Kindle Colorsoft does a great job in accurately matching the color. However, the colorsoft colors are silent compared to the book, even when the brightness is raised. I hope the screen is higher in contrast to vibrant shapes.

I also dragged Apple iPad (Gen 11th) to assess display screens on Colorsoft.

But I wanted to check that its silent accent was not only how e -books were explained, so I withdrew my iPad to view the e -book inside the Libby application. On the iPad, the colors were more vibrant and accurate for the material book of Kindle Colorsoft. In addition, the IPAD is highlighted the low colorsoft resolution.

You will not miss a lot of colors while using Kindle Colorsoft – just don’t expect the same vitality you expect in an actual version. If this is a priority for you to read digitally, go to get a tablet instead, as the colorful electronic screen screens still have ways to go in terms of accuracy and quality.

It works just like Kindle Paperwhite

With the addition of the color to Kindle, you are curious if it will affect the efficiency of its operating system. Fortunately, no. Colorsoft works just like Kindle Paperwhite, which means, quickly and efficiently. There is only a little time between pages, and it contains a resolution of 300 points per inch when using warmth and black brightness, modified, and IPX8 is a waterproof.

There is one small difference when operating colorsoft compared to Paperwhite. When using the electronic reader in color, the screen tends to flash between the pages during the download. This is a common ordeal among electronic readers in color, and something you find correct among the electronic reader of Cobo colors as well.

Other than the clear color side, COLORSOFT is proud of the standard Kindle Paperwhite standard: it’s ads -free. This was a pleasant surprise for me, but one I expected it for a device costing $ 250.

I am disappointed that colorsoft does not have a rate of rates automatically. Therefore, you will have to spend more on the Colorsoft Signature version.

Do Kindle Colorsoft deserve it?

For the ordinary reader, no, the Kindle Colorsoft is not worth it. Unless you often read graphic novels, you do not need a color on an electronic reader. When it comes to buying Kindle, it is a better value to go to Paperwhite or even Signature.

If you are really excited to get a colored electronic reader, I will explore KOBO offers instead. Clara is our favorite electronic reader in MASHABLE, and although it has a little smaller screen, it has the same brightness and accuracy as Kindle Colorsoft-not to mention it is cheaper for $ 90. If you want the larger screen, the Kobo Libra color is also great.

I may recommend this Kindle Colorsoft to buy parents for children. This model is 20 dollars cheaper than Kidsoft Kids, and during preparation, you can choose to prepare it to be a child’s friend. The color screen is a huge blessing for children who want to try their colorful books, in addition to being a much better reader than the tablet.
