
Kate Winslet says the only film she’s certain she regretted letting someone else star in was actually her most recent film, Goodbye June.
Not only is the 50-year-old actress starring in the Christmas drama, but it’s Winslet’s first time directing a feature film.
Written by her son, Joe Anders, the story revolves around four siblings whose lives are turned upside down when their mother’s health declines during the holiday season.

At that time, Anders had not yet completed it. She encouraged him to finish the script and told him she thought it could become a movie.
After more than a year of development and reworking, the project began to attract interest and Netflix was preparing to send it to directors. Winslet said that was the moment she realized she couldn’t walk away.
“I suddenly realized I couldn’t let it go,” she explained, adding that even if she never directed again, this was the only film she needed to make.
She described her feeling of deep pride in having directed the film, especially at a time when the film industry is facing great challenges.
Winslet also spoke candidly about the obstacles she faced as an actress-turned-director, saying that women often don’t have the same automatic confidence afforded to their male counterparts.
Inspired by the death of Winslet’s mother, Goodbye June It also stars Dame Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Timothy Spall, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, Stephen Merchant, and others.
The film is now in UK cinemas and will arrive on Netflix on Christmas Eve.
