John Mellencamp shares how he is supporting his daughter Teddi amid her long cancer treatment.
“She’s been going through hell this past year,” the 74-year-old singer said. the people. “She has 10 lesions on her brain. Although the lesions are not cancerous at the moment, they are still interfering with her thinking, and they are in her frontal lobe.”
He shared that he talks to her every day and “every day” as she battles stage 4 cancer.
Teddy has already had some lesions removed, but he is receiving radiation for those that remain.
“The lesions are still there, but the cancer is not there,” her father explained. “But that doesn’t mean she’s home free; it just means there’s no cancer at the moment. So she has to continue this treatment for who knows how many years.”
He also noted that her “personality changed” because of a defect in an area of the brain that controls thinking and emotions, as well as because of the cost of treatment. “She’s still the same person, but she’s not the same person. It’s not fun.”
John Mellencamp is also trying to convince the 44-year-old to return home to Indiana.
“I tried to convince her to come home,” he said. “I told her, ‘Go back to Indiana, get your kids and come back to live in Indiana,’ but she wouldn’t do it.”
