Iman is marking a decade since the death of her husband, David Bowie, with a deeply personal tribute.
The 70-year-old model took to Instagram on Saturday with a video debuting her new tattoo in honor of the late musician. The video documented the moment the artwork was drawn in ink on her arm, linking the post to Bowie’s aerial path. Subterranean.
She wrote in the caption: “January 10th.” “The pain did not disappear…but left a lasting mark of love in its place.” She added the hashtag “#BowieForever.”
Bowie died on January 10, 2016, at the age of 69, after an 18-month battle with cancer, which he largely kept secret.
He confirmed at the time, in a statement published on his official social media accounts, that he had died peacefully, surrounded by his family, and asked the public to respect their privacy while they were grieving.
Iman and Bowie met in 1990 after being set up on a blind date. They married two years later, in 1992, and welcomed their daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones, in August 2000.
In a 2021 interview, Iman spoke candidly about how she still sees them getting married. “I still feel married,” she said. the people at that time. “Someone once referred to David as my late husband, and I said, ‘No, he’s not my late husband. He is my husband. And through my memory, my love lives on.”
Just days before the anniversary, Iman also honored Bowie’s legacy by commemorating his 79th birthday with a black-and-white photo on Instagram. “Your light burns fiercely in all of our hearts,” she wrote. “We love you and miss you.”
