My cleaning routine usually includes making some of my necks because I want something strong that will cut grease and dirt. Mil was visiting and saw me mixing bleaching and ammonia. She said that the chemical smell was very strong and criticized me harshly to mix it.
Is there a real danger here?
Whitening + ammonia
There is a risk to mixing bleaching and ammonia, but many people do not know that. All of this related to the chemical reactions that are likely to occur.
Both whitening and ammonia are strong on its own. Then they are mixed together, a toxic gas known as chlorine is produced. It can pose different health risks.
Toxic fumes occur
Chlorine gas, when forming, is toxic. It can lead to problems such as:
- Annoying eyes
- Extreme respiratory distress
- Watery
- Chest
- nausea
If you are exposed to toxic chemical interaction for a sufficient period, it may even cause respiratory damage!

Additional risks
Often, people mix chemicals without knowing the dangerous chemical reaction. After that, they start cleaning in a room where there is not enough ventilation. The more inhale, the more dangerous the conditions. In addition, it can exacerbate other health problems, such as asthma.
Mixing ammonia and whitening does not lead to a more powerful cleaning factor.
Here are some best practices:
- Read the stickers
- Create a lot of ventilation
- Call control local toxins if you have suffered from serious exposure and symptoms.
Although it may be frightening to know that you created a toxic chemical reaction, there are many products that you can mix – such as vinegar and baking soda. If you are not sure of the chemicals you can mix, it is best to stick to a cleaning product purchased from the store (and do not mix it with anything).
