Among the less customized features that were presented late last year in the iOS 18.2 operating system, which is a major change in the mail application. The same experiment was added to iPad in iPados 18.4 and Mac in MacOS 15.4. For users for a long time for the Mail application, it was a shock to the regime, and some of them are used to get used to. But if it doesn’t happen, there is good news – you can change it to the old road.
The new mail application converts the inbox into several categories: initial transactions, transactions, updates and promotions. Categories spoil somewhat:
- essential: Personal messages and other time.
- Transactions: Purchase, receipts and shipping messages.
- Updates: News bulletins, postal lists and social updates.
- Promotions: Coupons, sales ads, random mail that does not fall in the garbage.
Once you start using iOS 18.2 (or iPados 18.4 / MacOS 15.4), the new mail will become default and messages will start automatically to direct their categories. Any folders will remain, of course, but your mail experience is definitely different.
For anyone, only your mail emblem will appear in the basic category, which means that dozens of messages may not be unread for hours or even days. And since everything is automatically, some important messages may be sent to the wrong category. However, all sensitive messages of the basic offer will appear even if they are sent to other categories.
When you enable the application for the first time, you may see a box asking whether you want to use the feature of the categories or not. This appears to be (on the left, iPhone/iPad right):

If you do not trust the way this new category is displayed or just does not like it, you can change it to the old way with a little trouble. On iPhone or iPad, here you are doing:
- In your inbox, click the Three -right menu.
- You will see the option to display the menu. Select it.
- Now you will return to the old way to make things with a timeline box.

On your Mac with MacOS 15.4 or later, the disposal of the new mail categories is slightly different:
- Find the list of the top in the menu bar.
- Clear the “Show the mail categories”.

Whether on iPhone, iPad or Mac, these same lists also have an option to switch the priority priority feature. So, if you do not like the small box in the top of your email that believes the Apple Intelligence is the most important of your emails, with a summary, you can easily stop this feature in the same place.
