The delegates also agreed to the technical rules to monitor the progress made towards these goals and adhere to the publication of national reports on their plans before the seventeenth conference of the parties in the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The President of the Colombian environment, Susanna Mohamed, President of COP16, praised the agreement as a victory over pluralism and nature. She said: “From Kali to Rome, we sent a light of hope that the public good and the environment, and the protection of life and the ability to gather for something greater than the national interest.”

Another major part of the agreement includes determining whether a new biological diversity box is needed or that the current box, such as the device that runs the global environment facility, is good enough.

With the applicable agreement, negotiators expressed their optimism. Maria Angelika Ekida from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted how the settlement played a role in achieving a positive result, especially for developing countries. She said: “Every person in the spirit of settlement made concessions, and in general for developing countries, the result was very positive.”
