Hundreds of federal health workers learned early on Tuesday that their jobs were reduced, as many were removed in the doors of their offices, as the Ministry of Health and Humanitarian Services (HHS) fell forward in a collective restructuring.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior announced last week that 10,000 employees will be abandoned, and a third of the agency, which oversees food and medicine, will be cut off.
On Tuesday, workers’ demobilization included many senior officials inside HHS, which will also use voluntary resignations to reduce their ranks from 80,000 to 60,000 employees.
Since he took office in January, President Donald Trump and his advisor, Elon Musk, have sought to reduce federal salaries.
Last week, the White House said it had plans to reduce 3,500 full -time employees in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and 2,400 United States centers to control diseases and prevent them (CDC). The administration said that it cuts 1,200 employees from the National Health Institutes as well.
Health workers began to listen early from 5:00 US ES (10:00 GMT) on Tuesday.
A long time before sunrise, Preston Bert, a communications specialist in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences and Practice at the Center for Disease Control for a period of 10 years, received an email that says, along with his entire department, was demobilized.
The department had hundreds of employees who worked with 33 states, and primarily assisting local health departments in collecting environmental health data and providing public with information about risks such as mercury and radon poisoning.
Two weeks ago, Bert and other band employees participated in an exercise to assess how to respond to a nuclear or radiological accident. He said that all of these employees had been left.
“Now if there is a nuclear disaster, then who will call as experts?” He asked.
While Bert was not shocked by the shooting, others learned that they were demobilized when they appeared to their offices and were unable to check their badges to enter.
Employees have waited in long lines outside to reach buildings during confusion and chaos.
HHS is a budget section of $ 1.8 trillion (1.39 trillion pounds) overseeing 13 agencies, including the Disease Control Center, FDA and Medicare & Medicaid.
Among the senior officials in the restructuring, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Jin Marizo. Anthony Fushi succeeded in directing the agency that led the American battle against Covid-19.
Marrazzo – and many other directors – have been notified that they were resetting to the Indian Health Services Department at HHS in other locations, according to media reports. They were asked to decide on Wednesday if they intend to accept the new roles.
As part of the wider Kennedy restructuring, HHS also unifies the 28 to 15 new partitions, including a new management of sound America, to help implement the Making American Healthy agenda again.
By announcing the changes, Kennedy said, HHS is “inactive as a whole” and that the cuts will remove the “bureaucratic extension”.
In a statement, HHS said that the discounts will provide taxpayers by an estimated $ 1.8 billion annually.
HHS has also made public health financing. Last month, the administration announced that it was withdrawing 11 billion dollars in the financing dating back to the Covid-19 era that local states and health departments were used for other purposes, including mental health and addiction, as well as outbreaks of infectious diseases such as measles and bird flu.
Washington, DC, and 23 states on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against the US government to reduce funding.
