How is the aquarium as a companion?
Charlotte, a Stingray in the small North Carolina fish basin, follows the DIY approach to reproduction
STINGRAY is in a small fish tank in Hendersonville, North Carolina, carrying – although living in a tank without male rays.
This event apparently sparked online speculation that the expected bite, Charlotte, had been impregnated by a small shark that she shares in its tank in the Aquarium & Shark laboratory. But experts say that this is unusually unlikely, equally, noting that the lion and wolf can have “Li-Wolves” (“Wolivions”?).
In fact, the children of shark will be more dramatic than that, says Dimian Chapman, director of the shark protection program at the Mother Marine Laboratory & Aquarium Laboratory in Florida. Another predecessor of cats and joint dogs lived about 45 million years ago. Sharks I diverged from each other at least 300 million years ago, according to 2021 sheets in the magazine Developmental biology.

Another explanation for Charlotte’s imminent motherhood, and it is no less surprising: it is certain that it drank itself, and it is a phenomenon known as the obstetric.
Chapman, who studied the first known case, says to Forming the defect in the hammer’s headquartersThat happened in 2001.
Charlotte, STINGRAY Round (Urobatis countriesIt has a noticeable child stumbling (visible on its lower side and back) and may give birth at any time, according to the Aquarium & Shark laboratory, which is run by the non -profit ECCO team. Pregnancy is confirmed by ultrasound. Cadi Lyon, a research scientist in Georgia Aquarium, says Charlotte will be the first known if the defect is formed. “It is great to have another documented case of this in a new type,” says Lyons.
Researchers do not fully understand the reason for the occurrence of generation or what leads to this. Here’s how the process works: inside the female body, the cell department creates sexual cells, or workshops. This is the result of the division, which is called the merit division, the egg, which can be ultimately fertilized by sperm, and three additional cells called polar bodies. The egg and each polar body contains half the supplement of the genes needed to make a new object. In the formation of an imbalance, the polar body is integrated with unaccodeible eggs, which leads to the formation of a fetus.
This differs from cloning, Lyon warns, which would create an accurate copy of the mother beam. In generation, because both eggs and the polar body only contain parts of the mother’s genome, children end in a less genetic variety of their mother. Some of the sophisticated types of origin revolve around them by doubling their genes before dividing their sex cells: Sex lizards Asuroscelis Get well to multiply this way. But for many other types that are subject to the formation of generation from time to time, the offspring may not be strong, says Leon. “You can think about it as a very innate individual,” she added.
Even STINGRAY Model Reproduction is strange. Lyon says that females are mating with many males in the spring and after three to four months, she gives birth with many different fathers. They bathlessly in a type of nourishing uterine liquid, which is not different from mammal milk, which gives them a way to survive when they appear. At birth, the diameter of children is less than three inches – with a baseball diameter – and are ready for the motive for themselves.
“They are very adorable,” says Lyon.
