Homeowner distraught after waking up to neighbors’ destructive act: ‘Now I’m stuck’

One Redditor was having some issues with a neighbor’s construction project, so he took to the community on r/treelaw.

“A neighbor came to my property and trimmed my pine trees.” books Original poster with some photos of damage. “I woke up one day and noticed all the trees had holes in the fence, so I spent money to check them before I talked to him about it.”

“At this point, I’m now stuck looking at this new shed he built in place of my trees. … I often trim them from the side but if you remove just a few feet, the limbs will naturally go up. Unfortunately, he cut them back to 6-8 feet and now we’re stuck with that.”

Members of the Reddit community had a wealth of advice for the original poster trying to figure out what to do about pruned pine trees. In particular, they backed away from the original poster’s idea of cutting down trees completely and erecting a fence instead.

“Plant another line of plants to hide the shed. Don’t cut those trees down,” books Top voted commentator.

“I planted the laurel trees two years ago to fill the spaces created by the neighbors. They have easily doubled in size this summer.” He replied last. “It makes a big difference. Instead of reducing what you have, adding several new plantings will break up the shed line and have some positive impact right away.”
