Here is the reason for a Republican proposal in California to divide the state into two parts: NPR

After the Democrats in California voted on a plan for the regions of Congress, a large Republican proposal to divide the state into two parts. Scott Simon from NPR talks to Parliament member James Gallagher.

Scott Simon, host:

A republic in California suggests the best division of its mandate into two parts. One can be a narrow coastal strip, including the strongholds of democracy, such as Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. The other country will be at home – Shaasta, Maribosa, Toulari and other rural provinces that are currently tending to more than the Republic. James Gallagher is the leader of the Republican minority at the California State Association. He presented the bill and called a solution from the two countries. Of course, this comes after the Democrats in California voted to re -draw provinces in Congress to provide more democratic seats. Gallagher’s member of the House of Representatives is now joining us from Sacramento. Thank you very much with us.

James Gallagher: Yes, it is good to be with you.

Simon: Can I ask, with respect – are you serious?

Gallaghar: I am serious. You really know, as you know, what is going on around this is the issue of acting. This is what we are fighting when it comes to GerryMandering, which is taking place worldwide. This is what we are talking about here with this new proposal consisting of the two countries, is that there is a lot of California that feels as if they are not active. Farmers who saw the prices of their goods decreased. The factor with blue collars, as you know, moves to a job in a colander on the verge of closing, and it is filled in the gas tank and pays the highest gas prices in the country. I mean, these are the forgotten people in California. As you know, the forces that they really don’t care about because they do not have to do so. They will often be re -elected, in this, as you know, coastal areas, regardless of the reason. They have all the authority, and they do not really have to address issues, as you know, in the inner California.

Simon: The man of the association, will it be good for California to cut off the internal California of what, after all, in the Los Angeles and San Francisco, some of the richest provinces in the country?

Gallaghar: Well, I think it will be a wrong name to say that this will be a poor country. In fact, if this is – as you know, the provinces I suggest become a new country, so I will be, I think, the largest country in the country. They have a very strong gross domestic product, a lot of manufacturing, as you know, logistical services in this field, agriculture, wood industry. As you know, there are many actual functions, wealth and opportunities in this part of California.

Simon: But I must ask – do you mean, do you exclude the possibility that the Republican like you can win at the state level?

Gallaghar: No. I mean, I do not exclude that, but I think the current structure is the structure that makes it really difficult for us to have a voice and say in our policies, right? For me, it is in fact not related to the Republican or Democrat. And if you look at this new situation, I think you will see that it is actually a very competitive state. She has Republicans, Democrats and independents. It is actually very diverse. You are very – you have a very large number of Latin population. As you know, this will be a country where there should be a debate about ideas, which is what you want.

Simon: Have you developed the democratic plan to redraw these Congress areas?

Gallaghar: Certainly. I would like to say it is the straw that broke the back of beauty. There have been a lot of these problems for a while, but now what you tell me is that you will strip my area, as you know, from all the representation of Congress. Instead, someone will tell me from Marin and defend my problems, right? Someone from, as you know, Santa Rosa will make decisions for someone in Botti Province. I appreciate all parts of California, but they are completely different, as we know, and they have different issues and different industries. As you know, we deserve to be acting as much as anyone else.

Simon: What about the argument that I am sure that you heard from the Democrats in California that they feel that they were forced to do so because of what the Republicans did in Texas?

Gallaghar: I think – I do not agree with what is going on in Texas. I was really really clear about it on the ground. Many Republicans in California said. But I believe that the other truth of your listeners know is that it is Texas that is the only one that does inflammation. In fact, Democrats were much better in gerrymandering than Republicans when you look at a country like Massachusetts, for example, they do not get members of the Republican Congress, but when they have voices at the state level, Republicans get 40 % of the votes.

Simon: The assembly member, I do not have to tell you that the state association has 60 democratic democraticisms now, 19 Republicans. The Senate has 30 democratic and 10 Republicans. What are the arguments that you will use to try to persuade your democratic colleagues to cross the corridor and vote with you on this?

Gallaghar: You know, some of them fair, hey, let my people go, do you know? I mean, it represents different parts of the state. And I say that, hey, you can continue to defend all the policies you want. I mean, you can tight, as you know, some policies. You may get $ 10 of gas, as you know, while comrades. But let us judge ourselves and our region the way we know better, right? For me, this is more suitable for democracy, as you know, the representative government.

Simon: Member of the California Association James Gallaghar, thank you very much.

Gallaghar: No problem. Thank you.
