Party unity is not Republicans’ strongest trait — though they have held together well during the Schumer shutdown so far.
Tuesday evening presented a different story as five Senate Republicans chose to side with Democrats Vote for ban Tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on Brazil.
Senate Republicans offered a rare rebuke of the president Donald Trump And his trading strategy on Tuesday, although it remains largely unchanged amid the ongoing government shutdown.
A handful of Senate Republicans have joined with Senate Democrats to end Trump’s use of emergency powers for sharp 50% enforcement Tariffs on Brazil. While the resolution, led by Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., advanced from the upper chamber, it cannot be taken up in the House until early next year.
That’s because House Republicans recently passed a rule that would not allow the chamber to consider legislation dealing with Trump’s tariffs until January of next year.
So, who are the Republicans who broke ranks?

I bet if I asked you to guess who the five were, you would come up with most of them – if not all of them:
- Suzanne Collins (ME)
- Mitch McConnell (Kentucky)
- Lisa Murkowski (AK)
- Rand Paul (Kentucky)
- Tom Tillis (NC)
This followed a closed-door lunch between Vice President J.D. Vance and Republican senators, where Vance warned senators against thwarting Trump’s use of tariffs.
Vance said after lunch that tariffs give Trump leverage to craft new trade deals that benefit the country, and he urged Republicans not to fall out of line against the president.
“To vote against this would be to strip the president of the United States of this incredible influence. I think it’s a terrible mistake and I know most people out there agree with me,” he said.
As of this writing, President Trump has not commented on the vote (although he is rather busy at the moment on the other side of the world).

As noted above, the House will not be able to take this action until at least January.
This is a developing story.
Editor’s noteSchumer closes here. Instead of putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats imposed a government shutdown of health care for illegal immigrants. They own this.
