Exclusive: Trump says that allowing Chinese students is “the right thing to do.”

Oval Office – President Donald Trump told the Daily Caller newspaper that allowing Chinese students to study in the United States is the “right thing to do” because it is good to communicate with other countries.

The Daily Caller conducted Trump’s interview on Friday for an hour. Speaking about the reason for allowing Chinese students to study in America, he told the related president that it is “very important” to tell another country that their students cannot come here. Trump added that he would lead to the suffering of “less universities”, and told the daily White House reporter Reagan Reese that he did not want to see the universities of the Ivy bond failing.

Below is an infinite excerpt of the conversation of the caller with the president. A full version will be provided.

White House’s daily correspondent Reagan Reese: You allow 600,000 Chinese students to study here –

President Donald Trump: 600,000 over two years –

Reyes: More than two years. I am curious if this is a negotiation tactic, or is this something you think benefit the country?

Trump: I think it’s a very insult to a country. I have a very good relationship with President Xi. I think it is very insulting to a country when you say that you will not take your students, and they may have 300,000-600 for two years-but they, to assume 300-350,000 students. It is also a good thing for our system, when you get them out and know who will be affected, the small colleges, and the higher colleges will not be, it is the least colleges that are –

Reyes: It will not take Harvard? Do not think? Because when I hear that, I think, I think the conservatives will say, “Well, let’s let Harvard and Colombia or universities die.” But you think it will harm the small schools?

Trump: I don’t want them to die, no, I want them to be great, but I want to be fair. And you know, they are punished. But you know, I do not want, we have, we have the greatest system in the world, university, youth, as you know, secondary schools. Let us say that you do not take Harvard. They will develop schools, and they will be fine, they will be fine. No, I think it is very insulting, in this sense, doing this, and I think it will harm the system. And, as you know, I agree with China. China pays us a lot of money at the present time. They pay us hundreds of millions of dollars. Do you understand what I mean by that??

President Donald Trump sits for an interview with calling by calling by Reagan Reese, along with Communications Director Stephen Cheung and journalist Caroline Levitte in the Oval Office, on Friday, August 29, 2025.

Reese: Yes.

Trump: It is isolation to say that we do not want their students.

Reese: Yes.

Trump: I, as you know, think it’s a good thing for us, but you know, we are in good condition with China.

Reese: Is there anything that you hope for specifically to allow their students to study?

Trump: No, no, I don’t want anything in return. We are fine. They pay us hundreds of billions of dollars. Pay Biden, do you know? Well, Biden left, you know, I did it in my first state. Many people do not know. And then when Kovid came, it was difficult to say Italy, who was just spoiling, right? Italy, France and Spain, we will put taxes on yourself. We will impose a nice tax or tariff. So, no, I think, I think he, I think what we do is the right thing to do. It is good to match the countries, not bad, in particular, as you know, nuclear powered countries. I think it is good to communicate with the two countries. the [Ukraine-Russia war] I will never start if you were president, and all of these children were now alive.

Trump announced politics on August 25, saying that Chinese students will be allowed as long as they did not pose a threat to national security. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said in May that the administration will cancel visas from Chinese students. The President has already explained the change in politics on Tuesday during the marathon cabinet meeting. (Related: Trump says hundreds of thousands of Chinese students are “good for our country”)
