Eric Idle recalls his last conversation with Rob Reiner

Eric Idle recently revealed that he was speaking with “smart, talented and very thoughtful” Rob Reiner just hours before he was murdered.

For those who don’t know, Rob, the famous American director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and political activist, and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, were found dead with apparent stab wounds in their home in Los Angeles on December 14, 2025.

The dead couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 33, a screenwriter by profession, is alive and being questioned; However, no arrests were made.

Once news of Rob’s tragic death spread, Idle revealed in a tweet that he spoke with him for over an hour “last night on the phone.”

“He was telling me about photography,” he wrote [sic] On Stonehenge and his ideas for the future. This is so terrible. I will miss him. A smart, talented and very thoughtful guy. Very terrible.

The 82-year-old American actor and comedian and Rob have known each other for five decades, having first met on Idle’s ‘Dad’s in 1975’.

It is worth noting that the late Hollywood star directed many successful films after his directorial debut in 1984, including This is Spinal Tap, stand by me (1986), The princess bride (1987), When Harry met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990) and A few good men (1992).
