Elton John and husband David Furnish celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary, with the couple raving about their partner in a social media post.
“Happy anniversary to my amazing husband, @davidfurnish. Today we celebrate 20 years of our civil partnership, 11 years of marriage, and many more years of happiness to come!” The 78-year-old pens in a post while sharing a photo of the pair.
Likewise, in his separate post, David shares a series of snaps with the caption: “20 years ago today we were civil partners. 11 years ago on this day we were married. Happy Anniversary to my amazing husband @eltonjohn. I’m so grateful for the beautiful life we’ve built together. Love you forever.”
The couple has been in a relationship for more than three decades, and the secret to their long-lasting romance is simple: a love letter every week.
“Every Saturday, we would give each other an anniversary card, because we met on Saturday,” David previously told 6LACK.
“So we wrote, in a little card that you put next to the bed, ‘Happy Anniversary.’ You write about the week that has been and the week that is coming, and you communicate, and you tell each other that you love each other,” he noted.
The duo first met in 1993 at a mutual friend’s party. They quickly found their spark. Years later, in 2005, the couple signed a civil partnership because same-sex marriage was illegal in the United Kingdom.
But when this much-discussed type of marriage became legal, David and Elton married in 2014. The couple shares two children.
