William Hughes died due to blood rotting less than 24 hours after he arrived at the hospital

A doctor who seriously infected her son rushed to East London Hospital, where she worked, and where she died later due to blood rot, she feels “betrayal” the way her family was treated.

William Hughes, 22, died within 24 hours of his acceptance at the Harton University Hospital after meningitis developed into blood rot in January 2023.

Dr. Deborah Burns said that she had been repeatedly inquired about his speed of treatment and has not been able since then to “return and work for an institution that does not recognize its mistakes and learn from it.”

The pathologist criticized the hospital, but said that she could not conclude whether the previous treatment had saved Mr. Hughes. The hospital said he would learn what happened.

Mr. Hughes became fine at about 13:30 GMT on January 20 and said he felt cold and was suffering from headache.

His condition deteriorated during the afternoon and woke up after going to bed that night to tell his mother that he felt very much and that he was bruises on his stomach.

She doubts meningi blood rot, his mother rang the hospital’s emergency department for warning that she and her son are on the road.

While she was in the hospital, Dr. Burns – who was a specialist in pediatrics at the Hommeron University Hospital – said that she asked employees on eight separate occasions if they had given him antibiotics.

“I was not watching the hour, but I knew that they were not granted immediately,” she said.

“I thought the nurse was prioritizing other things, and medications to treat his symptoms. It was not the drug that would have changed the result of what he had.”

Providing evidence during the investigation, the medical staff who treated Mr. Hughes said they did not remember Dr. Burns asking for antibiotics eight times.

The senior investigative judge, Mary Hasil, said that she accepted the evidence of Dr. Burns on this point, although she believes that hospital staff were not deliberately not honest, but they did not hear instructions from the registrar to manage antibiotics and fluids, in addition to a drug for its symptoms.

She added that Mr. Hewes did not receive antibiotics and fluids “with the urgency he should have.”

However, while submitting a narrative ruling, she said that the 22 -year -old was already fine when he arrived at the hospital and it was not clear whether he would remain faster.

“I trust them”

After the death of her son, Dr. Burns was told that the Harton University Hospital will investigate what happened.

But after months I learned that they decided not to investigate, because “there was no delay, there was no concern about his treatment.”

BBC told “she could not understand why no investigation was made … and why was not informed of the result.”

Dr. Burns added that she was unable to return to work as she planned, because of the way she says that the hospital had treated her family since the death of her son.

She said: “I am now more aware of the defensive culture in depth inside NHS. I trusted them, I felt treason.”

“It was completely unnecessary. If it could happen to me, I am really concerned about the general population.”

She now has a complex sadness.

“I couldn’t get away from this in the past two years,” she said. “All of this interferes deeply with the loss of my younger son who loves a lot.”

The Criminal Investigative Judge concluded that Mr. (L) did not receive antibiotics “with the insistence he should have.”

The forensic doctor said that it would issue a report on future deaths to the Homeron University Hospital, and invited him to share the changes made since the death of Mr. Hughes.

“The pathologist again explained how worried about catastrophic errors in the poisoning care,” said lawyer Depora Nadid, who represented Dr. Burns during the investigation.

“How many times the criminal investigative judge should suspend their concerns about hospital practices about blood rot, and how many times should the lawyer refer to the terrible impact on families to change things?”

“We told us that our policies and our operations for this situation are not sufficient and separated and we are determined to learn from its experience,” said Dr. Bern told us.

“This work will guarantee a more personal response to employees or their family members who are patients here.”

Al -Thiqa added that the action plan was developed after the death of Mr. Hughes, with changes, including ensuring that the intensive care doctor is attending the patient with the suspected intestine and providing more training in identifying the symptoms of sepsis.
