Dakota Johnson took on an unexpected role Friday night: Pogonia Conversation moderator with Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, and director Yorgos Lanthimos.
The event quickly turned into a lighthearted jabbing session, with Johnson promoting Lanthimos’s next project.
“I’ve seen Bogonia twice in the last 24 hours, but I’ve told the crowd over and over again that she’s the ‘wrong person’ to moderate,” Johnson said. “This is not going to be a good interview. I just want you guys to realize that I’m not good at this. I don’t know why I was asked but here we are,” she said, laughing.
As Johnson scrolled through questions on her phone, she joked about Lanthimos working with Emma Stone for the fourth time (in Favorite, poor, kind of kindnessand Bugonia).
“Did you know there are other actresses who are really talented, maybe even close?” “What! No, right?” she joked as Stone chimed in, looking at Lanthimos. Johnson brought it back to Stone:
“No, do it, pitch your idea, work on your pitch.” “You’re flirting,” Stone laughed.
Johnson praised Stone’s shaved head and the blood-soaked scenes in the film. “Who on earth looks so beautiful with a shaved head covered in blood?” “You’re flirting,” Stone joked, she thought.
Jesse Plemons discussed his character’s wild hair transformation (wearing hair extensions as a conspiracy theorist), recalling the times he would show off Yorgos Lanthimos’ new look and the director would just laugh.
Later, Stone spoke about the film’s twist ending, noting that it was a “fun challenge” to play a character knowing that audiences might rewatch it. Johnson ended the conversation with humor: “I regret doing it. I’ll never do it again. Is there anything you guys want to say before this terrible interview is over?”
“It really wasn’t that bad,” Plemons said, while Lanthimos joked: “I think you’re our third best broker.” “That’s huge. I’m going to go on the road,” Johnson replied.
