Actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle, were murdered last week by their son, Nick, who was arrested for the crime. It was a terrible thing that no family should have to go through.
President Donald Trump commented, but his comment sparked a firestorm because, although he called the killing a “sad thing,” he criticized Reiner in his remarks.
While many may know that Reiner had a history of posting negative things about Trump on social media, his actions went beyond that. He was actually instrumental in establishing the so-called Investigative Committee of Russia. According to their website:
The Russia Investigative Committee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit resource provided to help Americans recognize and understand the seriousness of Russia’s ongoing attacks on our democracy.
People who were on Advisory Board The committee included former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper; former CIA Director General Michael Hayden; and former acting director of the CIA, Michael Morell. If these names sound familiar, as Larry Elder pointed out in… An article on our sister site Hot Air, These are some of the same people who were part of Hunter Biden’s intelligence mission.
Reiner declared in an interview It was the committee’s point:
“[O]A new store where people can come and learn what the breaking news is today, the different investigations, the stages they go through, but also to understand the history, what the Soviet Union and now Russia have been trying to do for many years. He also said the goal is to understand “what cyber warfare is all about.”
The committee released this video in February 2018, and it’s amazing to see Reiner with Clapper and former CIA chief John Brennan.
Brennan and Clapper aren’t actually talking about anything specific. There was no evidence that any votes were changed due to alleged Russian hacking efforts.
The committee went on hiatus in 2019, after Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia collusion concluded, though it maintains its website.
Reiner has made numerous anti-Trump statements, as Elder noted, Including in a Variety interview.
“Donald Trump is the most unqualified human being to ever serve as president of the United States. He is mentally unfit. Not only does he not understand how government works, he has no interest in trying to figure out how it works…”
Reiner appeared on MSNBC in October and claimed that the country was descending into chaos “Despotism” in the era of Trump.
“We have one year before this country becomes a full-blown authoritarian state and democracy leaves us completely,” Reiner said. “We have to make the public fully aware that their democracy is being taken away from them, and we have to do everything we can to make people understand that… If they lose that democracy, all these things [First Amendment rights] “It will be taken from them.” [….]
“The Hollywood community is very aware that their First Amendment rights have been violated. We saw what was happening to Jimmy Kimmel,” Reiner said Sunday. “Our job now as reporters is to start communicating with the rest of the country to let them know what is going to happen to them. The two big things a dictator needs are control of the media and the army control of the streets.”
So there’s some additional context to the bad blood between these two.
